News from Special Hobby 02/2020

It is an evening, a day after the Special Hobby have returned from the Nuremberg Toy Fair. I am sitting in front of my laptop, writing this February instalment of SH Newsletter. Turns out the fair was rather a great success for SH, the Super Mystere SMB-2 kit was awarded the Model of the Year 2020 by the ModellFan magazine. The distributors and business partners showed enormous interest in our production, and it made us very happy indeed. We also want to point out that it was a great pleasure for us to see again our regular customers and meet with a new ones.
The new models which were announced at the Fair were received very well, most of all the modelling community, journalists and traders praised the new 1/72 scale Heinkel He 162 Spatz which had been kept secret until being unveiled at the Fair.
As this model is scheduled to appear on the market in coming months, we need to inform you now of the models you might expect a bit sooner, during this February. Along with plastic model kits, resin kits and detail sets, we also want to mention a trio of new products from our brand new range called Special Mask. This range is to bring the modeller pre-cut painting masks designed for (mostly) Special Hobby kits. These masks are made of top quality Japanese tape and will help you paint the canopy frames and wheel hubs of your SH models.

Reggiane Re.2005 Sagittario ‘Ultimate Italian WWII Fighter’

Art.no. Scale Barcode
100-SH48206 1/48 8594071087272

The Re 2005 was one of the very best WW2 fighter aeroplanes to be operated by Italy.  Even though just under 40 examples were finished in 1943, the plane saw service with three forces, the Regia Aeronautica, Aeronautica Nazionale Repubblicana and the German Luftwaffe. And markings of all these three operators are offered on the kit’s decal sheet.

  • highly accurate and detailed model
  • four marking options and schemes (2x Regia Aeronautica, 1x Aeronautica Nazionale Repubblicana, 1x Luftwaffe )
  • accurately designed and researched decal sheet

Blackburn Roc Mk.I ‘FAA Turret Fighter’

Art.no. Scale Barcode
100-SH48050 1/48 8594071080549

The Roc shipborne turret fighter plane was being developed side by side its sister design, the Skua fighter bomber. Unlike the Skua which did enjoy some operational success during the early stages of the war, the Roc was not so lucky. It still deserves, however, to be remembered, if only for its unorthodox looking concept.

  • the only Blackburn Roc kit in this scale
  • four scheme options, three of them in FAA colours, plus one with Finnish markings

The master of this figure has been sculpted based on a period photo and the resulting pose is thus very realistic and natural looking. The figure can be used as either a Luftwaffe or a Czechoslovak mechanic as the post-war Czechoslovak air force personnel were issued with ex-German gear. We are also releasing another set soon portraying an open engine bay.
