News from Special Hobby 01/2022

It is my pleasure to use this opportunity now to say our huge thank you to all our customers for their cooperation and support in 2021. The year that has just passed was a very successful year for our company and we hope for no less in the new year, too. Why so? Well, do believe me that all the models we have in the pipeline for 2022 are no less attractive than those we released past year. You can start looking for the whole new family of the 1/72 MirageIII/5 kits, yet one more version of the massive (and massively successful, too) 1/72 Sunderland kit, believe me or not, the first releases of the two-stage Mosquitos are expected as well. The SH team are also working on a new Hudson tooling, and mentioning the quarter scale, we will have for you the gun turret- and bomb bay-equipped version of the Siebel Si 204E/Aero C-3B and also a whole new Baltimore in several versions, plus the Piper L-4, SIAI-Marchetti SF-260 and a somewhat improved Heinkel He 177.  The crème de la crème will no doubt be the1/48 scale AH-1G Cobra kit. And no worries here please, the Q version will be released as well, just a bit later. Work on the Fiat G.50B Bicommando has also already started, plus on one surprise thing, which allow me to mention sometimes next. Our list of models scheduled for this year’s release is in the attachment to this Newsletter. The coming CMK resin sets as well as the direct 3D print sets will be made public bit by bit during the year.

In the pre-war years, Ettore Bugatti, a very wel known racing car designer, took the opportunity and decided to turn his attention to aviation too and come with a concept of a racing aeroplane which was to win the then rather popular Deutsch de la Muerthe races. At first, the plane was to be fitted with just one engine, this was later reconsidered and two powerplants were used, placed asymmetricaly in the sleek fuselage, each one driving its propeller – these were two, counterrotating. In this shape, the plane was even supposed to break the world speed record. The aeroplane was finished and prepared just before the war broke out, but had to be put out of the sight of the advancing German army. As of now, the Bugatti prototype is placed on display at the EAA Aviation Museum in the USA.
This kit contains two styrene sprues and a single one with clear injected canopy. As the machine was in blue overall scheme with no markings at all, the kit has got no decal sheet. The schemes are two though, the other one representing a fictitious scheme.

  • has never been released as a plastic kit
  • interesting, unorthodox construction
  • detailed PUR air intakes

The main difference is that now these sets are made directly on a 3D printer, but you can work with them the same way as you are used do working with the resin cast sets. This set brings nicel detailed fire arms of the German Volkssturm in the 1944-45 period. The set contains two MP3008 submachine guns of the second production style, one with metal arm rest, the other one with ersatz arm rest made of wood. Furthermore, you will also find in the set the 6.5mm Karabiner 409(i) – one of the most widely used Volkssturm rifles, originally the Italian Carcano Moscheto modelo 91 carbine.
