CMK 4398 - F-4A-1 - Reconnaissance Conversion set for Tamiya 1/48 kit - test build commences
Special Hobby team are working on CMK conversion sets designed for the new Tamiya P-38 Lightning kit released currently in the quarter scale. These sets will offer the modeller a unique option to model their kit in the sometimes overlooked, and yet highly interesting and quite eye-catching reconnaissance variety. The first of these sets, CMK no.4398 F-4A-1 Lightning is to bring a complete recon nose section, clear resin window panes with recessed camera lenses on their reverse side (which should be painted black to make the right impression), a couple of smaller items to come to the cockpit and a sheet of decals - these caters for one USAAF machine and another one as flown with the RAAF.
The images below show the start of our test build. Eventually, the model should bear markings of the Australian photographic unit. In the cockpit, we used Eduard's photo etched instrument panel and rudder pedals. The fuselage nacelle has not been finally assembled yet, the recon nose is temporarily attached by the means of a sticky tape, just for the benefit of photographer's camera.
