MD-3 Ground Power Unit

The MD-3 Ground Power Unit is an important element in preparing aircraft for ground operation and start. It was designed to provide the necessary electrical power for B-47 aircraft and could very well have been used for others too, such as the T-33 which required similar  power parameters. The unit was capable of providing 28 V DC 1500 A and 115/220 AC three-phase electrical power and used Continental 180HP six cylinder engine to drive its electrical generators.

The MD-3 is of historical value now, too and one example is on display at the Wright Patterson Base Museum in Ohio.

The MD-3 model kit set that no doubt can make many a diorama more life like is produced by Special Hobby in their CMK range in three major scales: 1/72 (129-7422), 1/48 (129-8058) and 1/32 (5130). A built example of the quarterscale MD-3 can be seen in the photos here.
